Wearing a joint brace or strapping can be really helpful for supporting an injured joint or muscles, but they’re not always the right solution long-term.

When it can help:
- After a recent injury to reduce pain or swelling
- To provide temporary and short-term stability while tissues heal
- During certain sports or high risk activities to prevent aggravation or re-injury
When to be cautious:
- If your body starts to rely on the strapping or bracing instead of building its own strength and stability
- When pain isn’t improving or seems worse when you’re wearing the brace
- If you’re unsure what’s being supported or why you’re wearing it
- If you feel other issues happening because you’re wearing it – such as new sore spots, pressure areas or compensatory pain
The key is finding the right balance – sometimes we want to protect a sore body part, and other times we need to make sure the body is able to support itself.
